Southminster March Lenten Schedule

March 1, 5-6:45 PM     Pancake Supper: Pancakes will be provided by 2 Guys and a Grill.  ($6 for adults, $4 for 6th grade and under, $15 maximum per family.)  During the Pancake Dinner there will be fun, family-friendly activities reflecting Shrove Tuesday/Carnival/Mardi Gras traditions, including a Pancake Race, King’s Cakes, and Mask-making!

March 1, 7:00 PM        Ash Wednesday Service: We will gather for our traditional Ash Wednesday service, featuring the ancient rite of the imposition of ashes.  The Chancel Choir will present an anthem entitled “Create in Me a Clean Heart, O God.”

March 5, 5:00 PM       Community Hymn Sing:  A Community SING is for everyone – no musical skills required! We will sing songs chosen to enliven the spirit and refresh the soul – and to remind us that we belong to each other. Everyone invited, child and family friendly. Fellowship at Blue Moose following singing.

March 8, 6-7:00 PM     The Jesus Creed Lenten Series:  At 5:45 pm the Family Life Committee will provide a soup/salad meal; Mark Ball will lead us in song; and coordinated children’s lessons will be led by the C.E. Committee. Choir members can go to the 7:00 pm choir practice straight from the dinner/study session. Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity for spiritual enrichment and fellowship!

March 22, 6-7:00 PM   The Jesus Creed Lenten Series (see above)

March 29, 6-7:00 PM   The Jesus Creed Lenten Series (see above)

April 13, 7:30 PM Maundy Thursday: As we arrive at sundown on Maundy Thursday we begin the Tritium, the Great Three Days of Easter.

April 14, 7:30 PM Good Friday/Tenebrae:  Jesus on the cross, we then wait with the disciples in the darkness.

April 15, 7:00 PM Easter Vigil: In the ancient church and in many Orthodox churches, the Great Vigil lasts all night.  As we celebrate the Easter Vigil at Southminster however, we are designing the service to be intergenerational and interactive. We will move from space to space for the different parts of the service and we will hear the stories in a variety of ways.

There will be times of movement and times for stillness. The service will begin on the back patio at 7:00 pm and we will conclude between 8:15-8:30. Everyone is welcome to join us for this service of watchful expectation and of celebratory Hallelujahs!!
