Through our gifts of time, goods and money Southminster supports missions in our community, across our country and throughout our world. If you are called to help, we welcome you.
Southminster has a long and rich history of supporting local mission partners who focus on hunger and poverty, health and wellness and children at risk. In addition to the financial contributions we offer through our congregation’s mission giving, many of these organizations also are in need of volunteers and other donations.
Here are some of the opportunities:
Community LINC, Inc. — A comprehensive ministry addressing the root causes of homelessness in our area. Community LINC provides transitional housing for families experiencing homelessness. Families are required to participate in the agency’s Career Development training program to address issues that will facilitate long-term economic stability and help break the cycle of homelessness.

Cross-Lines Food Kitchen— Serves a hot noon meal to needy persons Monday through Friday. Supported by an ecumenical coalition of faith groups, the Cross-Lines Food Kitchen is located at the Don Bakely Community Annex, 646 S. 7th St. Trfwy., Kansas City, KS 66105.

Volunteers: Southminster has a dedicated group of volunteers who provide a meal six times a year.

Crop Walk — Ending hunger one step at a time. This year’s event will be October 11 and will be part of the CROP Hunger Walks that support the overall ministry of Church World Service, especially grassroots, hunger-fighting development efforts around the world. We’ll share information about how you can join in the walk or pledge support for those who will represent Southminster.

Duchesne Clinic – As a safety net clinic, Duchesne Clinic provides primary health care, chronic disease management and medication assistance to low-income friends and neighbors in Wyandotte County. As a primary care clinic, they provide routine, preventative care and acute care, such as cold, flu and viruses.

Good Samaritan Project – The Good Samaritan Project provides advocacy, care, and education to those affected by HIV/AIDS.

Hillcrest Transitional Housing — Hillcrest Transitional Housing is a Kansas City-area ministry that provides a transitional housing program in a Christian environment that helps homeless families become self-supportive, self-reliant contributors to society. Hillcrest has five affiliate locations in the greater Kansas City Metro area.

Johnson County Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) — An innovative ministry addressing homelessness for families in Johnson County, Kansas. Southminster is a host church in the network, providing housing in our church facility for 4-5 weeks each year. We also provide annual funding to the network for their operations.

Kids TLC — A ministry addressing the needs of at-risk youth located in Olathe, Kansas. Their services include emergency, temporary and long term shelter, individual and family intervention, educational and life skills training as well as mentoring, volunteerism and recreational activities to youth ages 11-18, who need a safe place to stay and a structured environment. In addition to providing annual financial support, the Southminster Youth Fellowship has a special relationship with the residents of this facility.

Johnson County Emergency Assistance Center, operated by Catholic Charities — Provides emergency food and financial assistance to families experiencing need in Johnson County. Southminster provides annual financial support as well as in-kind donations of needed supplies throughout the year.
Wyandotte County Emergency Assistance Center, operated by Catholic Charities — Provides emergency food and financial assistance for individuals and families experiencing need in Wyandotte County, Kansas. In addition to providing annual financial support for the operations of the center, Southminster also provides in-kind donations of needed supplies throughout the year.

Uplift – Uplift offers care and compassion to Kansas City’s homeless. The organization of volunteers takes meals to the hidden homeless – those who do not or cannot come to shelters and kitchens. They also deliver clothing and basic supplies. In times of extreme heat or cold, the volunteers of Uplift make emergency runs to provide help and special supplies to these homeless people living under bridges, on the streets, and at other locations where help can not be found.

SafeHome – provides a healing atmosphere where survivors of domestic violence can gain inner strength, build self-esteem, explore options, and establish a life free of violence. Through SAFEHOME’s shelter and community services, approximately 7,300 individuals each year receive the support they need to lead healthy, independent lives.
SAFEHOME’s mission is to break the cycle of domestic violence and partner abuse for victims and their children by providing shelter, advocacy, counseling, and prevention education in our community.
