Music For Adults
The Chancel Choir
For nearly five decades, The Chancel Choir has provided musical leadership for worship services at Southminster Church. This group of committed adults works with energy and enthusiasm to develop voices, skills as choral musicians, and overall musicianship for the enrichment of the worshipping community. The Chancel Choir sings the great choral music of five centuries, striving to communicate the timeless message of our faith through musical integrity and diversity, and compelling interpretation.
The Chancel Choir rehearses every Wednesday from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. September through May. Child care is available.
Membership is open to all who desire to participate in this ministry; No audition is necessary. Interested persons may visit a rehearsal or contact the Director of Music, Dr. Stephanie Henry.

Youth Ensemble
Grade 7 to 12
As the feeder population for our own and other churchs adult music ministries, Southminster is nurturing a vocal and instrumental program designed for its growing Youth population. Started in 2002, the Youth Ensemble meets most Sundays from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. to plan worship and service opportunities in accordance with their resources and availability. Individuals in this group are encouraged to offer their skills as instrumentalists hymns and choir anthems in Sunday worship.
Instrumental Music
Adults and young people who play an instrument find many opportunities for ministry at Southminster Presbyterian Church. Throughout the year, ensembles of varying sizes are formed to provide music for special occasions, worship services, and two major works in conjunction with Christmas and Easter.
One of the delights of worship at Southminster is the musical inspiration provided by the churchs Casavant pipe organ. This magnificent instrument was assembled and installed in 1992, the culmination of many years of dreaming and planning. Built by the respected Canadian firm of Casavant, the organ speaks with 2, 041 pipes ranging in length from one inch to sixteen feet and brings a tremendous range of color and dynamic to all facets of the worship experience. Organ concerts featuring guest artists are organized annually through the churchs music department.
In 1998, through the generous gifts of several members, a Baldwin grand piano was purchased for the choir loft, further enhancing the plentiful musical resources at Southminster Presbyterian Church.
