Stewardship

The Stewardship Committee oversees Southminster's financial status. The three current ruling elders on the committee are also the church's trustees.

The committee:
  • Administers church finances.
  • Develops an annual budget for Session consideration and approval.
  • Conducts the annual stewardship campaign in the fall.
  • Interprets the four annual PC(USA) special offerings.
  • Approves special offerings and fundraisers.
  • Serves as Session liaison for the personnel and endowment committees.
  • Oversees office functions, budgeting for supplies and assessing equipment upgrade and maintenance needs.

The four annual PC(USA) special offerings are described at http://www.pcusa.org/navigation/giving.htm under "Making Gifts." Typically, we receive these offerings on the following dates:

One Great Hour of SharingPalm Sunday
Pentecost OfferingPentecost Sunday
Peacemaking OfferingWorld Communion Sunday (1st Sunday in October)
Christmas Joy OfferingOne of the latter Sundays during Advent

Southminster Presbyterian offers the option of monthly automatic withdrawal for pledges. The withdrawal date is the 15th of the month, and a one-month lead time is necessary to begin or end transactions. Complete the EFT Form (click here) to participate.

The Endowment Committee was formed in 2004 to restructure and promote the several endowment funds that had been set up since 1980. Southminster currently has six endowment funds:
  • General Endowment - began in 2004 with several donations and memorials
  • Local Mission Endowment - began in 1982 with Neal & Louise O'Connor bequest
  • Music Ministry Endowment - began in 1995 with Keith Harmon memorial
  • Church Facilities Endowment - began in 1999 with Cynthia Baughman bequest
  • Christian Education Endowment - began in 2006 with Don Luellen bequest
  • Columbarium Endowment was transferred to the church's books in 2002

The organizing papers outline the establishment and oversight of the funds. The Investment and Distribution Policies document outlines the investment guidelines and earnings distribution.
