Mexico Mission
Mexico Trip 2010
We are planning a Living Waters trip in 2010 and will be partnering with Central Presbyterian Church. Most recently we discussed the possibility of returning to Palenque or elsewhere in the state of Chiapas, if opportunities are available at that time. Our mission trips are available to our congregational members.
Agua Prieta 2007
Our 2007 trip was to Agua Prieta, Mexico at the Mexico/Arizona border. We were hosted by the Frontera De Cristo Presbyterian Border Ministries, one of the six Presbyterian border ministries of the National Presbyterian Church of Mexico and PCUSA. Our mission to AP was unusual in that we participated in informational activities rather than physical labor. We stayed in the Frontera De Cristo Community Center in a residential area of Agua Prieta where activities and jobs skill training are held for the community. The team visited the Just Coffee cooperative, a fair trade organization that seeks to offer living wages to people through the sale of their coffee. We walked into the Sonoran desert, lived on a factory-worker's wage, participated in a memorial for those who have died in the nearby desert, and shared meals with migrants in AP and workers in Migrant Outreach programs. The team held a three-day evening Vacation Church School for the children of Agua Prieta that included Bible study, crafts, and games. The transient nature of a border town like Agua Prieta, our own internal struggles with how we view immigration into the US, and the amazing people from varied backgrounds doing God's work in this part of Mexico and in Douglas, AZ, gave us plenty of material for our daily devotions and prayer.
Ongoing Ministry
The Mexico Mission group does more than travel to Mexico! We meet monthly to discuss opportunities to work and interact with the Spanish-speaking population in Kansas City and around the world. We adopted a family through El Centro for Christmas 2006 and are gathering information on ways to volunteer with them. We also co-sponsored a Vacation Church School for the Argentine Presbyterian Church for the past two summers. Please join us for fellowship, fun, and (often) food as we meet the first Tuesday of each month, 7:00 pm, at team member's homes and restaurants. Contact Susan Mitts or Susan Anderson for more information or to be added to our mailing list.

Palenque 2004
In 2004 our Mexico Mission team travelled to Palenque in the Mexican state of Chiapas. Our trips are organized by Don Wehmeyer (PCUSA mission worker to Mexico). For more on Chiapas, visit www.travelchiapas.com.

About Us
Southminster is blessed to have an active partnership with the Presbyterian Church of Mexico.
Travelers have stayed in homes of our Christian brothers and sisters in Tekax, at a girls' school in Merida, and at the Gethsemane Retreat Center outside of Merida. We work with local church members in manual labor in the mornings and hold a Bible School for children in the evenings. The love and mercy (and not less than a little humor) of God allows us to bridge the language barrier and spend a week in community with the Mexican people around us.
Congregation members of Southminster support these trips with prayers, encouragement, budgeted money for Global Mission, individual monetary donations, art and school supply donations, and by purchasing a lot of coffee!
In 2004 we visited Palenque in Chiapas, Mexico. Words can barely express the joy that we received working with the people we met at Barea Bible Institute and the Belen Templo Presbyterian Church. They welcomed us, fed us, and made us feel a part of their family. Continue to check this site for more on our upcoming trip! Click here to see some photos from 2004.
